Padang in Sumatra (Minangkabau International Airport) is your gateway to the Mentawais. Make sure you arrive here at least 1 day before you are supposed to depart to the Mentawai Islands.
To get to the Mentawais, you will have to take a ferry or boat early in the morning. Therefore, you will have to stay at least 1 night in Padang. We can arrange everything for you upon request, but if you are in charge of your own trip, make sure you pick a hotel/hostel close to the ferry harbor.

There are 3 different ways to get to the Mentawais. Depending on your time and budget, we will lay out the different options to choose from below.
Taking the Mentawai Fast out of Padang is the most budget-friendly route that is fast, comfortable and safe. Therefore it is also the most popular and recommended choice for travelers.
We don’t recommend private speedboats for small groups. If the weather isn’t ideal, small private boats are unsafe, and can be cancelled without notice. They are also super expensive, like $2000 one-way expensive. However, they are an option if needed!
The truth is, there are many ways to get to the Mentawais, but only a couple of them are consistent enough to list on our website. However, if you still need an alternative travel route, they exist!
